Cerberus is a secret division of the military that does research on mutants, their goal being to use their X Gene to learn about their mutations so that humans can use them. It is thought that these X Genes can be used to make everything from cures for deadly illnesses to creating a super soldier serum. Those mutants whose powers are only good for destruction or warfare are destroyed during the experiments on purpose, their X Genes places into solders in an attempt to give them the powers.
There are 3 divisions of Cerberus, hence the name.
Tracking Unit (CTU)-
This is a groups of skilled soldiers who are sent out to capture mutants and bring them back alive to the local Cerberus base so that they can be imprisoned and used for experiments.
Research and Development (R&D)-
These are the scientists who monitor the mutants, preform the experiments, and generally work behind the scenes, keeping the well oiled machine of Cerberus running smoothly.
Extermination Squad (CES)-
Unlike the CTU, this division of Cerberus is made up of both soldiers and X Soldiers, those who have been given the X Gene and mutated successfully. They are sent out not to capture mutants but kill them outright.
Soon Cerberus will be sending out a Tracking Unit to the scene of the accident in the alleyway. They will find a drop of Romeo's blood at the scene, scan it and find it comes from a mutant, and then be assigned to capture him. In the process of this they will of course discover the others in one way or another. This leads to their having to avoid Cerberus.
